Child Custody Investigations in Fort Lauderdale, FL
When you cannot be there during the other parent's time, we document what happens so a judge can see it.
Free, private consultation for parents and family law attorneys.
A Judge Needs Facts, and Facts Are Hard to Get on the Water
Broward family court decides parenting plans under Chapter 61, and the judge’s first question is what the child’s week actually looks like. Your account of what your ex does is testimony. Video of it is evidence.
Wasser Investigations has worked custody matters in Fort Lauderdale since 1985. Travis Wasser handles every case personally. He documents the exchange at the curb in Victoria Park, the boat leaving the dock on a parent’s weekend, the guest who arrives after bedtime in Rio Vista, and the pickup that never happens. Then he writes it up the way a judge at the Broward County Courthouse expects to read it.

Parents Who Are Worried and Attorneys Who Need More Than a Client’s Word
You Have a Reason to Be Concerned
Drinking. A new partner you know nothing about sleeping over. A weekend on a friend’s yacht with no adult you trust aboard. A child who comes home saying things that do not add up. We listen without judgment, tell you what we can lawfully document, and get to work. When the other parent is doing fine, we tell you that too.
Evidence That Survives Cross-Examination
Timestamped video, a clean chain of custody, and an investigator who has testified in South Florida family courts for decades. We schedule around the timesharing calendar so the surveillance lines up with the issues in your motion.
Six Things That Change Parenting Plans
Overnight guests during timesharing
A new partner arriving at 11 p.m. and leaving at 7 a.m. Judges care who is around the children, and we run a background check on the guest.
Alcohol and drug use
Hours at the bars along Las Olas and the beach while the children are in the parent’s care, driving after drinking, and associates with drug histories.
Supervision
Children left alone at home or on a boat, left with unvetted sitters, or in the care of someone the court ordered away from them.
Boating and water safety
Children aboard with no life jackets, a parent running the helm after drinking, or overnight trips the parenting plan never allowed.
Schedule compliance
Late pickups, missed exchanges, school absences, and the parent who says they are at work but is at the marina.
Relocation and violation of orders
A parent who has moved the child without permission, or who is in contact with someone a court order forbids. With Port Everglades and the airport minutes away, leaving fast is easy, so we document preparations early.
Custody Surveillance Around Canals, Docks, and Drawbridges
Fort Lauderdale parents live behind gates on the Isles, in high-rises on the beach, and on boats tied up behind the house. Bridges open, traffic backs up on the 17th Street Causeway, and the other parent is gone before an amateur finds a parking spot. We plan the route first, then pick the parent up at the house or the marina and document the school, the beach, the restaurant, and the second address.
We never make contact with the children or the other parent. We rotate positions, and if a session risks exposure, we pull off and come back. A burned custody investigation is worse than none.

The Custody File
- Timestamped video and photographs from each surveillance session
- A written report with a timeline organized by timesharing period
- Background reports on any adults observed with the children
- Chain-of-custody documentation
- Investigator testimony at hearings or trial
Questions Parents Ask Before Hiring Us
Is it legal to have the other parent followed?
Yes, in public places and without harassment, trespass, or contact. We follow from a distance and film only what anyone on the street could see. We do not record audio, enter property or a vessel, or approach the children.
Will my ex know?
No. We do not tell anyone who our client is, and in four decades the answer has not changed.
Can you follow my child?
We document the parent and the environment. We never approach, interact with, or make a child aware of an investigation.
You are based in Coral Gables. Can you cover Fort Lauderdale reliably?
Yes. We have worked Broward County custody cases for forty years, and surveillance is scheduled around the timesharing calendar, so the drive up I-95 is built into the plan.
What does a custody investigation cost?
Surveillance is billed hourly with a written estimate up front. Most cases take two to four sessions. The first call is free.
